Murray State University recognized by Forbes, Washington Monthly

Murray State University was recently recognized by both Forbes and Washington Monthly.

For the fourth consecutive year, Washington Monthly’s 2017 College Rankings has highlighted Murray State as a best value for students seeking a college degree. Murray State was the top-ranked public university in Kentucky within the Southern Schools category of “Best Bang for the Buck,” ranking 28th overall among nearly 200 institutions.

Also as part of the Washington Monthly rankings, Murray State’s master’s degree programs were ranked 148th among more than 600 universities. Murray State was the top-ranked public university in Kentucky within this national ranking of master’s level programs and the second-highest ranked Kentucky institution in this ranking.

According to Washington Monthly, institutions are ranked for their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and doctorates) and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).

The methodology for the “Best Bang for the Buck” rankings included specific measures, such as loan repayment rank, graduation rate, net price of attendance and percentage of Pell recipients and first-generation students.

Based on the University’s most recent reports, Murray State provides more than $126 million in yearly financial aid while awarding an average of $5,573 per student in scholarships and waivers.

Recent recognition of Murray State also came from Forbes magazine, which again named the University as one of America’s Top Colleges. This marks the tenth straight year in which Murray State has garnered this accolade.

“Both Washington Monthly and Forbes’ recognition of Murray State University continues to affirm our commitment — and ability — to provide students with an outstanding and affordable education that prepares them for lifelong success,” said Murray State President Bob Davies. “These rankings are consistently achieved as a result of the accomplishments of our students, and the opportunities afforded to them by our tremendous faculty and staff.”
